#47 - Culture Clash of ES Events

[[The writing comes slowly and every few words come out a little shaky]]

I'll say this much: I actually like the outfit this time.

But that still doesn't excuse the lollipops.

This better as heck go away by my birthday, or I'm gonna find a couple of you jerks to beat senseless and ~~send to the shadow realm~~ ... ~~into the next life~~ ... you get the idea.

These headaches aren't going away. Can Medical fix those?

I'm a smith ~~now~~ again. Krile is letting me work with her.

So this forge thing is somewhere near the weapons stall?

That's right. We have to repair and make weapons somewhere, after all.

Oh, maybe you can take a look at my weapon sometime. It probably could use sharpening or something with how much abuse it's gotten lately.

I'd be happy to! Bring it by anytime we're open.

[It's the day after Smoke's joyful return to a life with nicotine and alcohol and mild curse words, so he's feeling pretty chipper. A little worried about his brother not being around when he woke up, but he could've just gone to work early. It happens, and Smoke woke up pretty late that day even for him.

But without any brother to bother, he still had about an hour to kill before work, and he remembered Flame had said she was working at the Weapons Stall now. Good a time as any to go see how she was doing.

Approaching the area, he starts looking around for something... big, basically. He has no idea what a 'forge' should look like, but it sounds like a massive structure.]

[ The forge was a sizeable structure, quite close to the weapons stall, and thankfully it had been undamaged by the storm. Even if it had, that wouldn't have stopped Flame from feeling the most at home and happy there. She'd helped in the repairs, but those were done, and now there was just the comfortable competence of work. The fires were banked low at the moment as she fiddled - not on journal paper - with a design, and in the back of her mind, considered a repair that was also on her list, and how to best repair the break to strength.

So there she was, warm and pleased, focused but still aware of a possible knock. Krile came in quite often to work on things of her own, or to ask Flame for help with something; she was used to, and didn't mind, the interruptions. ]

[ It took a bit of wandering, but he found it. What finally caught his attention was the long blond hair, and he waved as he spoke. ]

Flame! Man, look at what you've got here!

[ He was decked out in studded leather and a hat plus a fringed jacket. Smoke was looking much more pleasant than he'd seemed on the journal. ]

[ She looked up, her surprise quickly changing to a smile. She got up cheerfully and came closer to him. ]

You look like you feel much better too.

Lots.

[ His eyes kind of rolled up for emphasis as he exaggerated the sound with his mouth.]

[ Then he grinned, left hand out in front of him like he's about to make a fist. ]

You ready to see it?

Yes, absolutely.

[ She looked at him attentively, waiting for him to produce his weapon. ]

Alright!

[ Out of his left hand appeared a small white light, which then shifted into a thin staff, and finally manifested into the full shape of his weapon. Smoke spun it a little so that now the spade-like blade was on the 'bottom' end of the weapon's shaft - nearer to his right hand - and the crescent-shaped blade was on the 'top' - nearer to his left. For the moment, there was no sign of the chain.

But Smoke clearly thought his weapon was freaking cool by the grin on his face. ] Heh.

[ Flame wasn't surprised by the sudden manifestation of his weapon. She did watch with interest, though, because something about it was different than she was used to, though she couldn't quite say how. Of much more interest to her was the unusual weapon he carried. She studied it with a practiced eye and a slight smile lingering on her face. ]

A little sharpening wouldn't go amiss, but you take good care of it. What do you call it?

Just a staff or stick* really- Hold up... you're not surprised that I just summon it like this?

[ Only very few people in Smoke's time in Edensphere had ever NOT been shocked by his weapon suddenly appearing out of thin air.]

[[OOC: Smoke refers to his weapon as a shakujou, as opposed to its more formal name, which translates roughly as staff or stick.]]

It's not just a staff. [ Her tone is fond; she likes the weapon. To his question, however, she pauses, and blinks. ]

Should I be? Not everyone can do that, I know, but it's possible...

Well, no, but everyone else looks at me funny when I bring it out even with a warning.

And I dunno what else to call it. [ He unlatches the crescent blade from the top of the weapon and pulls it out a little to show the chain. ] You got any better names for this kinda thing?

[ She chuckles a little. ] Like they've never seen magic before? How odd.

Oh, a chain! Even more versatile, then. [ She considers his question. ] I don't have a name for it, no. I mostly deal in swords and bows.

Or just not magic weapons. Or something like that.

[ He spins the crescent blade around - away from her - by holding onto the chain just below the crescent. ]

I'm still trying to think of other ways I can use it, but I figure sharpening the blades couldn't hurt.

[ She watches him spin it, again with that look of academic interest. Not her job to figure out how to use these things, sure, but they're still fascinating to see in motion. ]

I think it would be a very effective weapon. And even better sharpened, of course. Do you want to wait, or pick it up later?

It has been a pretty effective weapon. Just not very good against crystal golems. Blades bounce off rock, apparently. [ He rolls his eyes in a 'go figure, but what can you do?' sort of way.]

[ Then he sighs, but notices that Flame is really interested in the weapon in a way. ]

I'll wait. I'd kinda like to see what all you can do.

[ She rolls her eyes and reaches for it. Sharpening wouldn't take too long. ]

Of course blades bounce off rock. That's probably why you have some nicks here.

[ There's a whetstone in the shop, of course. This is the kind of thing to do by hand. ]

You know of anything better? I mean, it's rock. [ He's not irritated at her - more just the idea of crystal golems in general being so tough to kill. ]

[ All the same, he watches her work. ]

[ She shakes her head. ] Try not to fight rock. I don't really know what else you would do. Something with water, perhaps.

[ She finds the whetstone and the other necessary tools and gets to work. It's clearly a familiar action to her, well-practiced, but she's still quite professional about it. Maybe the scraping sound would bother most people, but she doesn't seem to care. ]

Something with water? You mean like a magic spell? I think the weapon's about all I got.
