Alright so I'm sick of staring at these bubbles spoutin gibberish I don't know & people I know just up & disappearing without tellin me where the hell they're off to & I'm sick of just... waiting around fer somethin t happen.

I've got this urge to practice with this weapon ... staff ... thing, so anyone up to spar? There's enough of me to share. ♥

[[His expression changes fast, sobering up.]]

Alright. Yeah, let's go.

[[He steps to the side to let her lead, but crushes his cigarette out under his shoe. He's ready to focus.]]

[She leads him quickly through the crowds, heading for the bridge that leads to the Park. From there, she'll take him to the Aquarium, as she's sure he'll have questions she won't want to answer where the tree can reach them]

Bear with me--I'll be able to explain more when we get there.

[[He's just looking around confused now, starting to realize the severity. ]]

This is... really heavy stuff isn't it? Why do we have to get anywh--

[[catches her expression]]

I'll just shut up. Whenever yer ready.

[Bastet gives him a quick pat on the arm, meant to reassure him some, but is otherwise quiet until they reach the Aquarium. Once there, she slows her pace, letting him come up beside her.]

You've heard of people dying and coming back, right? Like with Trust?

[She sighs, pausing a few moments and then just comes out with it.]

It's Ran this time, Smoke. She's gone.

[[He's quiet for a little bit as it sinks in.]]

[[Shocked becomes sad]]

... I see.

[[And on to anger as his fists clench; he's not looking in her direction right now.]]

Damn an' Kanin even was askin' about the bar idea again...

[She's had more time to get used to the idea, but it's still painful to say it again, much less watch the news hit Smoke so hard.]

He may not know. He got in a fight the same day and has been at Medical Island ever since.

[she pauses a moment]

We all expect her to come back. We just don't know when; it's different every time.

[[He wasn't expecting that suggestion.]]

You think she'll...

[[He calms down a bit, but still curious.]]

Won't be the same, a'course... but... you think so?

[She gives him a sad, wry look.]

We hope so. But like you said, even if she does it might not be the same. Some people come back having forgotten everything, while I've heard of others just forgetting how they died.

[She sobers once again.]

I brought you out here in case you wanted to know why and how. Because it wouldn't have been safe to answer you in the Market.

[[His eyes narrow at her, trying to concentrate.]]

Safe? What the hell does that mean? ... Did she get in trouble or something? ... Who the hell would have wanted to kill Ran?

[She narrows her eyes at him--not in anger, but in warning. People visit the aquarium, and she doesn't want to be overheard.]

I didn't see it; I got there right after. But they said she was looking at a book, and called everyone over to see something she'd found. Then...either a tree branch or root came through the window and killed her.

[She pauses; Smoke seemed trustworthy, but it would be stupid to tell him any more than what was already common knowledge. Not until she knew him better.]

There's no way to know for certain what's dangerous to say, so I didn't want to be around any trees when telling you.

[[He's damn curious about all of this but going to file it away for later.]]

... That is a messed up way to die. Why the hell would a book make a tree mad at her, god...

Anyway, fine, don't talk about the trees or the books near the big tree? Got it.

[[Looking back up at her.]]

You gonna be okay?

[She shakes her head.]

I don't know, Smoke. But listen; it's not just the big tree--any tree. This happened in the Marketplace, not up in the Tree itself. It might not be necessary, but I'm not willing to chance it just yet.

[She gives him a slight smile, and pats his arm.]

Eventually. This hit a lot of people hard, and I've been trying to help where I can.

Yeah I'm definitely needing that work-out now, fuck.

[[He shakes his head before sighing and shrugging his shoulders.]]

You're welcome. I figured you deserved to know.

[She gives him a tiny smirk.]

Yeah, I don't blame you. I'll have to set up a spar with someone when I get the time.

[Sighs, and rolls her shoulders.]

I gotta get back to work. You were meeting them in the Park, right?

Gonna hafta make sure I go easy on those guys... Trust's got a weapon, but I don't think that new kid does an' no clue if Chosen does either...

[[Grips his weapon a little tighter]]

But yeah, I'll head over there now. I told 'em an hour from when I left, so I shouldn't be late, but it'd be good t' practice some more so I don't beat th' livin' shit outta' 'em.

[Arches an eyebrow at him, still smirking.]

Somebody's confident. Be careful, guy. You're kinda growing on me; I'd hate to hear something went wrong in that spar.

Anyway, the Park's on the way back to the market, so I'll just head back with you.

[[Smirks back.]]

I got no plans on dying soon, don't worry.

[[Starts walking away, but not fast enough she can't catch up.]]

Maybe we'll still be goin at it when you're done with work, so you can come back an' watch me work if ya' want~

[She starts walking with him, having no problem keeping up, despite the height difference.]

I may well. Especially if you and I are ever gonna spar; I should see what I'm getting into first.

[She knows she won't be able to with Sniper still in such bad shape from Ran's death, but the banter is familiar and fun.]
